Sakura, or cherry blossoms, are one of the most iconic imagery attributed to Japan. Every spring, Tokyo transforms into one of the world's most beautiful cities as delicate pink and white blossoms cover parks, riversides, and historic streets, creating an unforgettable setting for portrait photography and transforming the Tokyo landscape into something absolutely magical. Their short life reminds celebrants of the overwhelming beauty, yet tragic brevity, of life, itself. They create some of the most beautiful portrait photographs in Japan—if you know where to find the right locations.

The popularity of hanami (花見, or "flower viewing") means that photographing beneath the blossoms in Tokyo can quickly become challenging, with popular parks often filled with visitors, photographers, and picnic groups.. That and plus most trees within Tokyo are not low hanging enough to get those dreamy portraits where it feels as though you're standing inside a cloud of cherry blossoms. Over the years I've spent countless hours scouting Tokyo's best cherry blossom locations, including quieter parks and hidden sakura spots that many visitors never discover. Cherry blossom season is the busiest time of year for portrait photography in Tokyo, so booking early is highly recommended. Because sakura bloom dates vary slightly each spring, I'll also help you choose the best available dates for your session.

Photography in Tokyo is my full time job and has been for years. When I say I shoot almost daily I really mean it. On top of my client work I run photography workshops and one of Tokyo's largest meetups for creatives and models in various spots across the city for the past several years so you can be rest assured I know this city and the spots to shoot like no other.
