Anyone who has spent the most minimal time in this country will instantly appreciate how Japan is a land of stark contrasts. For every push into the future there are remnants of the past seemingly at every turn. Skyscrapers are being built next to shrines and fancy Michelin star restaurants are surrounded by vintage izakaya drinking pubs. Japan, as the worlds most ageing society, has always had its eyes on the future but its feet firmly planted in its nostalgic past. ​ This contrast leads to a wealth of photographic opportunity. And as a photographer with a keen interest in deep culture I wouldn't want to be photographing anywhere else! ​ There's a story attached to every photo I show here. Mostly fictional, but also mostly from my own experiences in Japan over the years. In this series my aim was to capture and edit in a way that portrays modern day Japan but in a style that gives it a time-honoured classic feel.

Your collection is already set up for you with fields and content. Add your own, or import content from a CSV file. Add fields for any type of content you want to display, such as rich text, images, videos and more. You can also collect and store information from your site visitors using input elements like custom forms and fields. Be sure to click Sync after making changes in a collection, so visitors can see your newest content on your live site. tekumi tokyo creatives group This past year I started a photography group in Tokyo for creatives and models to network, collaborate, and CREATE! The group has been a huge success in its early days with our weekly photo walks and I've met some wonderfully talented people along the way. This city just brings out the creative spark in all of us and the Tekumi Tokyo Portrait and Street Photography Workshops Group is just getting started. Every week we would throw out the call for creatives and models to meet at a different station each week along the JR Yamanote loop line. We started at Shibuya Station back on March 10, 2022 and have been holding events two times a week each week since at different locations across Tokyo! 02 studio workshops The next evolution for me as a photographer was always going to be taking it inside the studio and then sharing that experience with other photographers who don't have the chance to work in this type of environment. There is an entirely different human element that must be nurtured compared to other styles that can bring your audience into something more than just a pretty picture. ​ This workshop will focus on working with a model out on the street producing environmental and street portrait photography similar to the works in my portfolio. Private In this personalized 1 on 1 workshop we will work with an experienced model and cover all the basics as well as more advanced topics when it comes to pre-shoot planning and on location. We'll discuss topics such as how to work with your subjects in terms of posing and cues, lighting and what to look for in uncontrolled environment (aka not in a studio) to be sure the models are lit properly, the use of effects and props, creating work with intent and purpose, locations and of course the best camera settings and gear. ​ Max Size: 1 person ​ Cost: ¥15,000 / per hour (minimum 2 hours) ​ Locations: Shibuya and Shinjuku primarily but other areas of Tokyo as well ​ Language: English, Japanese (intermediate) ​ Required Gear: Minimum: a smartphone camera with manual settings app Preferred: DSLR or mirrorless camera capable of manual modes CONTACT Group Book time with me in a group of 2 or more (up to 6) where we will work with an experienced model and cover all the basics as well as more advanced topics when it comes to pre-shoot planning and on location.
