there's a brief period every year where it feels like Japan transforms into scenes from some of your favorite animes...
sakura...
...or cherry blossoms, are one of the most iconic imagery attributed to Japan. Once a year, to usher in the change of season from the cold of winter to spring these trees start to blossom their beautiful pink and white flowers transforming the landscape into something absolutely magical. Their short life reminds celebrants of the overwhelming beauty, yet tragic brevity, of life, itself. And they make some of the most beautiful portrait photos IF you know where to go.
The popularity of hanami (花見, "flower viewing") is so immense that in large parts of major cities like Tokyo the actual viewing and photo session can be anything from a real challenge to next to impossible with swarms of crowds all vying for their perfect selfies or picnic spots. That and plus most trees within Tokyo are not low hanging enough to get those epic shots where you feel like you are in a self-wrapping cloud of flowers. Those spots exist but a little bit out of town and if you book my Sakura Portrait Photo Session I'll take you to some of the top places that not even local Japanese know about.
The cherry blossom season is the busiest time of year for photography requests so be sure to book early! The season is short so timing is everything.
